From the mid-1930s to the early 1940s two camp outposts of Volgolag developed the Shishkovo quarry in the Bezhetsk district (Tver Region). One of the camp outposts was located not far from Konstantinovo village; the other was close to Kablukovo village. According to some sources, the gravel and sand excavated at the quarry was used in the building of the Moscow Metro. The harsh conditions in which the prisoners lived and worked led to high rates of mortality. The exact places of burial and numbers buried there have not been established; name lists of prisoners are not available.
According to local inhabitants one of the camp cemeteries was not far from the village graveyard of Shishkovo-Dubrovo. On 30 October 2012, thanks to the Tver Memorial Society a commemorative monument was erected on that site. The text on the plaque reads: “In memory of the inmates of NKVD camps who died working at the Shishkovo quarry in the 1930s” (see photo). Next to the monument a metal Orthodox cross has been erected.
