Background

During the Great Terror one place where executions and burials occurred in Izhevsk was the ravine adjoining the powder depot (12a Reduktornaya Street). Archival documents confirm that ten people were shot there on 12 August 1937 and their bodies buried in the ravine: there is a report that the death sentence imposed by the NKVD troika of the Udmurt ASSR has been carried out.

On 12 August 1994 a memorial plaque was unveiled on the wall of the former powder depot, thanks to the efforts of the Association of Victims of Political Repression. The names of the ten executed on 12 August 1937 were listed there. The text is also dedicated “… to the many unknown victims. May the victims of political repression in 1937 never be forgotten”.

Books of Remembrance

Two volumes of a Book of Remembrance for Udmurtia have been published (2001 & 2016), including biographical entries on 9,800 who were shot or sent to the camps.
